VOODOO ESCAPE - THE AIRBOAT ADVENTURE
CONCEPT FOR A DARK RIDE BASED ON VOODOO’S NEW ORLEANS ROOTS
CONCEPT
“Voodoo Escape - The Airboat Adventure” is my senior project at the Savannah College of Art and Design. I wanted to develop a dark ride concept and attraction for an historical tradition in Louisiana. I wanted to design a story that brought guests through a wild adventure on the bayou.
I have always been fascinated and inspired by my home in Louisiana. It is what drives my appreciation for the people of New Orleans and their culture. As traditional and historic as New Orleans Voodoo is, I wanted to design a conceptual ride that is engaging and entertaining for all guests. With symbolic elements of inner coastal waterways and Voodoo’s magic and myths, I knew this concept would be a perfect fit; and what better way than to ride through the bayou in an airboat.

Narrative: Deep in the bayous of Louisiana, the Voodoo Queen has taken over the hidden swamp and the surrounding land. As you make your way through an abandoned plantation home and towering graveyards, her soul threatens to entrap you for all eternity. As the Queen casts her dark magic upon mysterious swamp creatures and brings the dead to life, she makes it near impossible to escape. Luckily, a swamp native offers a daring escape on his nearby airboat. Hold on and glide through the darkness as you barely escape the Queen’s voodoo sorcery.
The fate of your airboat adventure is in the hands of a swamp native. Will you take a chance and escape on an airboat during nightfall? It appears that there’s only one choice to make.
